Vision
The Canadian Muslim Women Committee promotes Muslim Women's Human Rights in Quebec and Canada.
Mission
The necessity to protect and respect the human rights of all citizens including Muslim women is our main focus. It is also important to educate the society at large of the right of Muslim women to choose and practice their religious beliefs freely and to inform the members of the Muslim community of their rights as full citizens.
Objectives
The main objectives of the Canadian Muslim Women Committee are the following:
- Educate the society of the need to respect the rights of all citizens including the right of expression of religious beliefs
- Establish contacts with the active elements of the Quebecer and Canadian society
- Demand clear instructions from all sources of authority of the society for the need to respect the religious character of all citizens including Muslim women such as the hijab and the right for alternative sport activities in schools (i.e. replacing swimming classes with other more convenient practices)
- Educate Muslim women about their rights and freedom of expression as per Quebec's and Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedom
- Promote women participation within women related nongovernmental organizations
- Defend Muslim women's rights in case they are exposed to infringement by direct intervention
Means
The main means used by the Canadian Muslim Women Committee to achieve its objectives are the following:
- Establish contacts with the society's main elements: school boards, human right organizations, and governmental social agencies
- Prepare informative brochures
- Hold workshops
- Hold conferences & seminars
- Enlighten the society by contributing articles to the media
- Intervene actively when needed
